Over the past few years I have chosen a word to guide me for the year. It’s always a helpful exercise, though it doesn’t always remain top of mind. I don’t know about you, but with a toddler in tow, my memory seems to be quite hazy! And though my word of 2016 didn’t seem to stick in my mind, it did actually turn out to be truer in life. My word last year was grow, and grow I did as I pondered the passing twelve months. The balancing of life with two kids has shown up my flaws, yet I certainly have felt that have grown just like that orchid on my kitchen bench. I have to admit that I’ve totally been slow off the mark this year. And have only just decided on my word for 2017. After much deliberation, I finally settled on …
Over the past few months, I’ve been working with my six year old the concept of action. So am taking a leaf out of that parenting book, not just say I’m gonna, but actually do.
What am I going to do you might ask.
Well last year, I had an epiphany. One that surprised me really. I came to see that I was being overwhelmed by stuff we had, like toys everywhere and it really was impacting my life. I came to the conclusion that I had to get rid of stuff. I’ve been doing some reading about minimalism and just working out the best way forward to simplify life. And have started to clear out things that are no longer loved or used. It’s a totally slow process with kids at home over the summer, but I’m going to keep chipping at it, and make it happen.
To get more stuff done this year, I’ve also started bullet journalling to help keep me on track. I’m loving the process thus far.
Time to get into action now.
Do you have a word for 2017? Or a motto that you are planning to live by in 2017? Have you heard of bullet journalling?
